The Neo Mitochondrion Creature infestation has resurfaced and taken on a sinister twist. Today's selection, Somnia Memorias, brings these two contrasting worlds together. Theme of Aya sounds like the light reflected off a rain-wet NYC street in the dead of night, and Theme of Mitochrondria is pure primordial ooze. The album features several different artists doing the remixes as well as one track that was remixed by Yoko Shimomura herself.Yoko Shimomura's compositions aren't just well-suited to the game they also evoke their own powerful imagery. It was released by Square in between Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII. The idea behind this album came from Yoko Shimomura who wanted to make an album where the game?s music was completely remixed instead of just re-arranged. Parasite Eve is quite possibly the most underrated game ever. Just did a search on Ebay for completed items of Parasite Eve 2 and only saw one auction that ended at about. We have created a virtual ofrenda (altar) for the Cragmont community to share remembrances and to honor family members who are no longer with us. Ofrendas typically feature photographs of the deceased person along with marigolds, sugar skulls, candles, and the loved one's favorite foods. The word "ofrenda" means offering in Spanish, and the ofrenda is a home altar, usually created for an individual person, that features a collection of objects placed on display during the holiday to guide the loved one to reunite with their relatives. One key feature of Dia de Los Muertos is the creation of ofrendas, or altars, that honor deceased loved ones. Even if you have not celebrated this holiday in the past, we encourage you to learn more about this beautiful and meaningful celebration with your students and families this year.ĭIA DE LOS MUERTOS COMMUNITY OFRENDA (or Altar) Though we cannot celebrate together in person this year, we wanted to share information about the Dia de Los Muertos holiday and offer opportunities for Cragmont families to celebrate together virtually from home. The tradition started in Mexico but is now celebrated in different ways across Latin America and in many other parts of the world. Learn more about Día de los Muertos, visit the Smithsonian Latino Center’s Latino Virtual Museum. For the past few years, Cragmont has hosted a school community event to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), the annual Mesoamerican celebration wherein families gather to honor and remember deceased loved ones. This belief stems from the fact that the first monarchs arrive in Mexico for the winter each fall on Nov. Monarch butterflies play a role in Día de los Muertos because they are believed to hold the spirits of the departed. With their strong scent and vibrant color the petals are used to make a path that leads the spirits from the cemetery to their families’ homes. There might be a pupil in your class whose parent is a journalist, for example, or one whose relative runs a catering business. Such e-learning approaches are easy once you keep your eyes open for opportunities. The lesson flowed, pupils were guiding their own learning and everyone got to talk to an expert. In a follow-up lesson, pupils Skyped my grandfather. We then investigated the effect of acid rain on plants. This focused on how acid rain was formed and the effects it could have on the environment, a key element of the key stage 3 science curriculum. I showed a three-minute video of my grandfather to my Year 7 class, accompanied by footage from his home. So finding friends or family members who can describe their experience in the field to pupils in the classroom is vital in giving purpose to young people’s learning.Ī new face is also engaging and, when used as a voice-over to pictures or videos, can give a whole new slant to the lesson. So setting up a Skype call with such an expert, recording it and showing it to a Year 7 class to help facilitate their learning about acid rain seemed like a logical thing to do. My grandfather worked for the Institute of Hydrology on a project in the Hafren Forest of Mid-Wales, where he focused on the management, monitoring and protection of water quality and its sources. As teachers, we are constantly looking for new ways to engage pupils, yet we often overlook resources that are right under our noses. Two other considerations are footprint and promptness. Pauses are times when an application appears unresponsive due to GC. Throughput is the percentage of the total time spent on other activities apart from GC. The two primary measures of garbage collection performance are throughput and pauses. Consider pooling only if object construction cost is high and significantly affects execution profiles. So, custom object pooling is not often required. When the old generation fills up, it triggers a major collection which involves the entire object heap.īoth HotSpot and Solaris JDK use thread local object allocation pools for lock-free, fast, and scalable object allocation. When the new generation fills up, it triggers a minor collection in which the surviving objects are moved to the old generation. This process comes with an overhead and is not required for enterprise web applications. This provides a high probability of small pauses. They divide the full GC into several incremental pieces. Other GC algorithms, such as the Concurrent Mark Sweep (CMS) algorithm, are incremental. The frequent young space collections are quick (a few milliseconds), while the full generation collection takes a longer (tens of milliseconds to a few seconds, depending upon the heap size). Collecting the tenured space is also referred to as doing a full generation collection. So, it is garbage collected less frequently and each collection takes longer than a young space only collection. The tenured generation is larger and fills up less quickly. Objects that survive multiple young space collections are tenured, meaning they are copied to the tenured generation. The young generation uses a fast copying garbage collector which employs two semi-spaces (survivor spaces) in the eden, copying surviving objects from one survivor space to the second. The JVM allocates new objects in the eden space, and moves longer lived objects from the new generation to the old generation. The new generation includes the new object space (eden), and two survivor spaces. The heap space is divided into the old and the new generation. As these objects accumulate, a low memory condition occurs forcing GC to take place. The efficiency of a generational memory system is based on the observation that most of the objects are short lived. A generational memory system divides the heap into a few carefully sized partitions called generations. The process of locating and removing the dead objects can stall any application and consume as much as 25 percent throughput.Īlmost all Java Runtime Environments come with a generational object memory system and sophisticated GC algorithms. Garbage collection (GC) reclaims the heap space previously allocated to objects no longer needed. When a showrunner told her about the crematorium delay, she let out a hoot. “I lean toward these,” she said, choosing the orange and red. The next day, she would film a scene in which her friends meet for poker and edibles. A crew guy asked her to choose between two baggies of fake pot gummies, one orange and red and the other green and yellow. She had come to the funeral-home set in her capacity as an executive producer. She plays a more withdrawn version of herself named Sam, a would-be diva trapped in small-town America. “Somebody Somewhere” has required Everett to close Pandora’s box, only to open it again by degrees. She’s a hot mess who has utter control over a room. Onstage, Everett drifts from meandering, half-melancholy tales about her dysfunctional childhood (her mother is a recovering alcoholic, and her father was largely absent) into sensuous power ballads. “I could not follow her,” Schumer told me. Patti LuPone once stood up mid-show at Joe’s Pub and yelled, “There is no one like you.” She later invited Everett to duet with her at Carnegie Hall, and the two are now developing a Broadway double act called “Knockouts.” Schumer featured Everett on her sketch show “Inside Amy Schumer” and took her on comedy tours, not as an opening act but as a closing one. The alternative-cabaret scene is not a typical route to stardom, but Everett has plenty of influential admirers. Years ago, during a phone interview-she called me from a nude beach, where she was hanging out with Amy Schumer-she described her stage persona as “a crazy maniac who doesn’t get laid enough, so I have to put my sexual energy somewhere.” In her 2015 Comedy Central special, “Gynecological Wonder,” Everett lurches into the audience, trickles a glass of water over a spectator’s bald head, then thrusts her fingers into his mouth, singing, “I’m coming for you.” Her blowsy sexuality is less a weapon than an invitation to feel as uninhibited as she does. She talks about sloppy sex, having abortions after sloppy sex, getting blackout drunk, the many varieties of “titties,” her genitalia, her parents’ genitalia, her audience members’ genitalia-but it’s all too joyful to feel especially transgressive. In a signature song, she belts, “What I gotta do to get that dick in my mouth?” and then makes everyone sing along. Traditionally, she ends the show by picking a man out of the crowd and sitting on his face.Įverything about Everett is large: her pipes (she studied operatic voice in college), her libido, her stage presence, and her body, which she uses as gelignite to spark a crowd into a willing frenzy. In her live shows, which she and her band, the Tender Moments, perform regularly at Joe’s Pub, the cabaret arm of the Public Theatre, she prowls the audience in skimpy, outrageous outfits, guzzling Chardonnay from a bottle and burying spectators’ faces in her bosom. “Everybody be on your best behavior.” No. 1 on the call sheet was Bridget Everett, the forty-nine-year-old comedian, vocalist, and, as she likes to describe herself, “regionally recognized cabaret singer.” Everett is the star of “Somebody Somewhere,” which premières this month and is largely based on her life and her home town of Manhattan, Kansas.Įverett is not known for staying on her best behavior, or even her better behavior. “No. 1 is here,” the assistant director announced. After a few takes, another combustive force entered the room. The new series “Somebody Somewhere” was shooting at a funeral home, and the fumes had flustered a lighting guy. One June day in Romeoville, Illinois, a small town outside Chicago, an HBO crew ran into an unexpected obstacle: smoke billowing from a crematorium.
